Specialized Esalen Massage:
Neck and Shoulders (8 CE)
In this specialized workshop, we will focus on the neck from the supine position, deepening our understanding and skill set in one of the most challenging areas of the body to work with. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the interplay of muscular/structural balance between the neck, shoulders, and chest, as well as the energetic and emotional components that correlate with these areas.
Through deep- and soft-tissue techniques combined with trigger-point work and active/passive release, students will develop the skills to address potential injuries, such as whiplash, and to apply targeted techniques for postural imbalances that weaken the neck, such as kyphosis.
Jessica's teaching integrates her background in Structural Integration to help students understand how a client’s posture shapes the approach to bodywork, while blending the Esalen® artistry of touch with fluid, lighter strokes to move lymph, prevent soreness, and soothe the nervous system. Students will also have the opportunity to explore body mechanics, self-care, and somatic practices to cultivate an awareness of the body-mind connection.
